'And this album really proves that the dulcimer is a wonderful instrument for modern pieces with its surprisingly various aspects. Breaking the rules, we went beyond the limits of the stereotyped technique and of traditional Chinese music, but still preserved the typical classic and glamorous styles of the Chinese dulcimer. . . . I believe this album that features the dulcimer can refresh listeners' senses, and make more people understand that the dulcimer is a very flexible instrument that can blend into many different musical styles, as shown here.' Its strings can produce beautiful sounds with a pair of bamboo mallets. Probably introduced to China in the Ming Dynasty, this instrument originated in the Mid-east areas such as Arabia and Persia, and was called the Santur. Later it was introduced to Europe, North America and Oceania, and was called with different names such as Dulcimer, Cimbalon, Hackbrete and Psaltery. In China, it is also called 'the butterfly Qin' for its thin and long bamboo mallets look like a butterfly's antenna¡C A modern Chinese dulcimer has a very broad range and is apt for various musical playing techniques such as chords, tempo, chromatic scale. It is not only an important instrument in instrumental ensemble, but is also an excellent and stylistic solo instrument.
