About Taiwan's Frogs The frog is an animal that changes its body temperature according to its environment, mostly living on warm and humid plains or in lower valleys.
Taiwan's sub-tropical and tropical climate fits the frogs' living conditions and allows frog watchers to enjoy them throughout the year. Every month you can watch different kinds of frogs. There are 31 kinds of frogs, and divided into five classifications: Bufonide, Hylidae, Microhylidae, Ranidae, and Rhacophoridae. The Central Formosa toad, Brown treefrog, Temple treefrog, Farmland treefrog, Nantou treefrog, Orangebelly treefrog, Emerald treefrog, Taipei treefrog, are native to Taiwan, while the much larger American Bull frog was imported from abroad; and it eats other kinds of frogs. During these years, some textbooks, which encourage children to raise pet frogs such as American Bull frog and to set tadpoles free in the wild, have caused a crisis for the native frogs threatening their very existence.
