The theory of the Five Elements, also known as the Five Evolutional Phases, an arrangement of all aspects of the phenomenological world into categories of Fire, Water, Wood, Earth and Metal, first developed in the Zhou. The earliest Chinese theories of health/illness and medical treatment, astrology and divination techniques, and theories of musical tonality and composition were all unified through a mutual basis on Five Element & Yin Yang theory. The Book of Changes cycle of Elemental Music was developed during the 1980's in the Mainland China by researchers in traditional Chinese medicine in collaboration with leading Chinese music composers. Originally designed to permit more effective treatment of illness, this music's capacity to counter Elemental imbalance on biological, psychic, and emotional levels makes it unique among healing and therapeutic music.
'...This resonant music sounds soothing and almost sad, slow in tempo and low in tone. The deep flute solo near the end of side A took my breath away...'-By Carol Wright, SAPRA TRADE JOURNAL, Spring 1994
