You Xue-shi

As a musician who has made a difference in people’s lives through playing ocarina, and as an idol of the popular public who belongs to the non-mainstreaming music arena, You Xue-shi inspires people to develop a passion for the ocarina. The sales of these two albums Ocarina in Wonderland and Ocarina Fantasia in 2003 together set a new record. Over one hundred thousand albums have been sold. In the end of 2005, he founded “Taipei Ocarina Orchestra” and made it the indicator of accomplishment of Taiwan’s ocarina orchestra. In 2007, You was nominated for “the Best Album Award in the Performance of Popular Music” for “Ocarina Dreamer”. Due to his efforts in promoting the charm of this special musical instrument to the general public, the ocarina has become a national musical instrument.
